When Emily Akinyi Odero, a trainee at the Deed Institute taking a course on food and beverage arrived to the Deed Institute little did she know she will be spending some time on the salty shores of the Indian Ocean in Nyali for her industrial internship in the ever busy and high end food department of the Naivas supermarket Nyali branch.
In her own words she narrates her experience in one of East Africa’s best retail stores. ‘‘ I was attached to Naivas supermarket located in Nyali Mombasa to gain experience and skills on what we really learnt at The Deed Institute. Naivas Supermarket offers a good working environment and the warm welcome they gave to us and made us feel at home. In the Naivas supermarket food court there are a lot things to be learnt like the use of different machines in my field of study mainly to ensure quality and speed in delivery.
According to work scheduling, everyone has at least one day in a week when he/she does not report to work and in Nyali you will always have a good time. At work I some-times serve as a waitress or chef depending on how we are scheduled in shifts.I have gained new knowledge and have improved my skills while working at Naivas Supermarket and I truly enjoy being there as an intern If I could be told to choose, I would definitely remain and work with them since I have adjusted and coped with the situation in terms of speed, working hours and more importantly the joy of handling customers ’’
